The Church of Mantic Plants

Healing via making, Tau Lewis stitches together memory, history and the Black imaginary.

The Church of Mantic Plants is a series of 20 textile sculptures stitched by hand in Lewis’ Brooklyn studio. — each one individually named and entirely unique. “This series is very much rooted in and pulling from the imaginary, but made with commonplace materials.”

The works launch alongside a print edition by Ludovic Nkoth as part of Inner Visions, a series curated by Larry Ossei-Mensah. Read more.
